13 tips for a happy summer

13 tips for a happy summer

The summer's here already for us to enjoy. Even those who'll be working this summer, could enjoy the benefits of this beautiful season. Today's post will be just a quick update with a list of tips that you can use to make your summer rock:

1. If you happen to be here...

you most probably don't need tips, and most probably you're not reading this..
Add caption
2. Drink water!

That is one of the basic tips for a cool and pleasurable summer. During the summer we loose lots of water and we need to compensate. Dehydration can make you feel fatigue and lack of energy, so don't forget to have water with you wherever you go!

3. Wear white

It looks good and it's the best to protect you from the summer heat!

 4. Wear open and comfortable shoes

Sometimes our feet can feel a bit heavy in the summer heat. Create comfort for them with open comfy pair that you like :)

5. Go swimming

It's one of the best sports suitable for everybody- children, men and momen of every age. You work out for all groups of muscles at the same time and you build a harmonious body without risks of traumas.

6. Take care of your body with massages and body treatments

Take the time at least once per week to take care of your body- take care of its appearance and of its health and comfort.

7. Learn to make and enjoy cold drinks and foods

Cool tasty fruity icy drinks are always a good idea in the summer. Ice creams, sorbets and frozen drinks are the perfect way to indulge yourself.

8. Eat light food

This will make you feel and look light ;))

 9. Invite your friends over or make out

The best idea...for any season!

10. 3 is always more than 1:

Break your days off in three (or more) and go on vacation for 3 shorter breaks, instead of one longer. This way you'll be excited and expect good times more often and you'll adapt to the work process more easily. Long breaks are proven to stress us out, because we switch off the working mode. A friend told me- give me a month break and I'll take the responsibility to overcome the stress afterwards...fair enough!

11. Check on your work

reduce the stress of having millions of emails and obligations at the end of the break

 12. Don't get stressed

Chill out, take time for a break and dare to be lazy on Sundays :)))

 13. Listen to your favorite songs

My Tuesday bouquet:

 Ben Muehlethaler ❥ ♥ ღ ɞ ❥ ♥ ღ ɞ ❥ ♥ ღ ɞ ❥ ♥ ღ ɞ ❥ ♥ ღ ɞ

 Chris Botti :))

Led Zeppelin

Le petit dejeneur Parisienne :*

Pink Floyd

That's all for today!  See you guys soon! Bye :)

P.S. Thank you US, India, Philippines, Poland, Tanzania, Bulgaria, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Serbia, Singapore!!! Love! G.

mood and food

FOOD & MOOD

How to improve depression symptoms by
changing your eating habits?

Is there a relation between food and mood? Can you boost your mood by changing your diet? If you don't feel right you might want add some foods to your menu and supply your body and brain with essential elements responsible for energy and mood boost. The link between physical health and fitness has been extensively promoted over the years. However, not enough people look at their diet as a way to improve their mental health.
Food for the brain (www.foodforthebrain.org) is an organization, working in the area of mental health and nutrition.
It is a "non-profit educational charity organization, created by a group of nutritionists, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, teachers and scientists to promote the link between nutrition and mental health."
It is based in the UK, but you can also benefit from its services and appoint an online consultation if you're based in the US, Canada, Ireland and South Africa. If you're not though, you can read the information on their website. It's really useful. You can find section listing foods for different mental problems including: hyperactivity, autism, bipolar disorder, dementia & Alzheimer's, depression, dyslexia, Parkinson's disease & schizophrenia. As my previous topic was about depression, I wanted to suggest some options for mood improvement in addition to therapy. That's why I decided to borrow the information that  food for the brain provides about depression and diet and I hope that it will be useful for you. Let's explore how to balance out our food to fight symptoms of depression:

"INCREASE YOUR OMEGA 3 FATS intake

Omega-3 fats are called essential fats, because unlike some other substances, they can’t be manufactured within the human body, and therefore it is essential that you take them in through your diet. The richest dietary source is from oily fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, pilchards, herring, trout and fresh, but not tinned tuna. Surveys have shown that the more fish the population of a country eats the lower is their incidence of depression. There are two key types of omega-3 fats, EPA and DHA and the evidence suggests that its the EPA which seems to be the most potent natural anti-depressant. "

"INCREASE YOUR INTAKE OF B VITAMINS

People with either low blood levels of the B-vitamin folic acid, or high blood levels of the amino acid homocysteine, (a sign that you are not getting enough B6, B12 or folic acid) are both more likely to be depressed and less likely to get a positive result from anti-depressant drugs.

"BOOST YOUR SEROTONIN WITH AMINO ACIDS

Serotonin is made in the body and brain from an amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is then converted into another amino acid called 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan (5-HTP), which in turn converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin. Tryptophan can be found in the diet; it’s in many protein rich foods such as meat, fish, beans and eggs. Just not getting enough tryptophan is likely to make you depressed; people fed food deficient in tryptophan became rapidly depressed within hours."

                "BALANCE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR

There is a direct link between mood and blood sugar balance. All carbohydrate foods are broken down into glucose and your brain runs on glucose. The more uneven your blood sugar supply the more uneven your mood. In fact, our experience at the Brain Bio Centre is that poor blood sugar balance is often the single-biggest factor in mood disorders amongst the people that seek our advice."

               "UP YOUR INTAKE OF CHROMIUM

This mineral is vital for keeping your blood sugar level stable because insulin, which clears glucose from the blood, can't work properly without it. In fact it turns out that just supplying proper levels of chromium to people with atypical depression can make a big difference."

                       "BRING ON THE SUNSHINE

Known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, around 90% of our vitamin D is synthesised in our skin by the action of sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency is increasingly being recognised as a common problem around the globe and may be implicated in depression, particularly if you feel worse in winter."

Името и е food for the brain  (в превод „храна за мозъка“) .

Am I depressed?

“Am I depressed?”

"Am I depressed?"  Millions of people ask themselves this question on a daily basis, but only around 10% of them ever seek help. Today’s topic is of great importance, because if left untreated, depression could lead to drastic decline of the quality of every area of the client's life.
It may affect his/her career, personal life, self-actualization, and most importantly all subjective experiences in his/her life. Severe depression may lead to frequent suicidal thoughts, suicide initiation and death.

Depression is a mood disorder, which affects around 181 million people worldwide and causes the death of nearly 850 000 every year. As a counselor and as a person these data frustrate me and call the need for action. I will speak today, but I’ll also speak in the future.
We as professionals need to speak more and raise the public awareness of essential mental health issues, because we, better than anyone else know, that therapy works. Therapy will help you cure, or improve your condition. It will enhance your quality of life, it will help you to grow as an individual and will provide you with valuable support in any given moment, in which you feel overwhelmed.

One psychological condition can strike every part of your life and it could lead to a general lack of life satisfaction. A person, who’s suffering, or has suffered knows, that even good moments in life may have grey shades when experiencing sadness, anxiety, low self-esteem, or we’re permanently under stress.
I’ll share some pieces of a letter I received some time ago. It is the letter of someone brave, willing to speak, and to fight for his life back. Actually I already met the person who wrote it, and with his permission I’ll write his words, but of course will not reveal his identity. The client is from Sofia, 33 years old male, with higher education, currently employed in a big international company. I decided to share this story, because it is important to look at the problem from the inside out and not only to list diagnostic criteria. The problem has its human face and here's the story of my client:

“Hello Gergana,
I saw your website and decided to write you a letter, because I don’t know what to do. I’m not crazy, or weak, but things really aren’t ok…
…And all these things are happening for two years now. I feel constant dissatisfaction. I have difficulty waking up in the morning for work, and then I’m frustrated the whole day and when I finish the only thing that I want to do is to go home, have a whiskey and watch some TV.
I have no desire for anything, and I don’t want to do anything. I hang out with my friends very rarely, and I always find excuses that I’m busy, while in realyty I don’t do anything after work.
I feel sad, but I don’t want this to be visible to anyone. At work I’m irritable, which is definitely not helping me, but it’s better than being down.
I really hate it when people see me in a bad mood, cause they start with the questions and start looking at me with worry and pity. And this bugs me, it bugs me a lot. I’m not a sissy and I don’t like dribbling things. That’s why I don’t share with anyone that I’m feeling bad, but it’s starting to be an obstacle and to become more and more visible.
I drink, watch TV and I stay in the Internet until late. I fight a lot with my girlfriend lately. She wants me to stop drinking, to go out more, to start working out and loose some weight, because I gained a lot. She’s complaining that I don’t want her sexually, and thinks that I'm cheating on her (which is not the case).
The truth is that I simply have no desire for anything. Lately when I go home, I just want her not to be there, so I could drink and watch TV without someone making me feel guilty. Everything’s heavy on me, and as much as I want to change- I can’t. I have a good job, but I also go there with reluctance…
…The thing that scares me lately is the inner desperation that I have. Somehow, I see that I won’t be able to fix things, and I don’t want to be this… the depressed guy lying on the couch after work and drinking. I’m afraid that I don’t feel the point and everything seems empty and shallow. I’m like in coma.
….To be honest, I feel that my life is slipping away and it makes me want to cry…am I depressed?”

Although, in this letter you could identify some of the symptoms of depression, I’d like to stress that diagnosis could be done only after personal meeting with a qualified professional and after having a proper clinical assessment. Moreover, frequently depression is accompanied by other psychological problems (i.e. anxiety disorders, alcohol dependency, personality disorders etc).

What do I need to know?

Symptoms of depression

(The diagnostic criteria of the DSM-IV-TR published by the American Psychiatric Association)

"Sad, depressed mood during most of the day, almost every day, for at least two weeks, or loss of interest, or pleasure in usual activities PLUS at least four of the following:

-sleep disturbances (insomnia), inability to fall asleep, or awaking in the middle of the night and inability to fall back asleep, too early awakenings, or in some patients the desire to sleep all the time
-Changes in the activity levels: lethargic movements, retired reactions, or irritation
-Lack of appetite (loss of weight), loss of weight or excessive appetite (gain weight)
-Lack of energy, great fatigue
-Negative self-evaluation, self-blame, feelings of worthlessness and guilt
-Complains or visible difficulty to direct one’s attention (indecisiveness or slowed thinking)
-Frequent thoughts of death and suicide"

(Davison, Neale and Kring, 2004)

These symptoms restrain the person who's suffering from the bigger part of his/her life. It causes lost good moments, opportunities, feeling of inability to change things or feeling of boredom and heaviness of every day. These symptoms are a distorted prism that makes every moment look heavy, colorless, and monotonous, with lack of life and meaning. And no, the one exhibiting these symptoms is not weak or just acting. He/she’s suffering. However, there are different degrees of feeling depressed and that can vary from melancholia to clinical depression and suicidal thoughts. In either case, the role of a therapist is crucial.

In modern psychology the role of the counselor varies from providing therapy, to prevention and strategic development of mental immunity against psychological discomfort. If you experience any symptom, especially if it’s affecting negatively any aspect of your life, just start therapy and begin changing what makes your life miserable.
In a world, where inner and non-material processes, have a secondary role in our priorities, the need to talk about psychological health is greater than ever. The more we avoid this topic, the more difficult it becomes to realize the essence. De facto, in human’s life there is not even one single experience that is not psychological in nature.

Why working on mental processes, when we can't directly see them?
In every given moment of our existence, the main protagonists of our science (psychology) – thinking, behavior and emotion (along with all cognitive processes such as perception, attention, etc.), create what we call life, with all things in it. They’re mixed in different blends and they’re the building blocks of the material reality. Let me give you an example.
You want to make a business deal. You feel confident, you think that you can handle it, and you execute the necessary actions to reach your goal, and you succeed. That way you achieve a material result based on feeling, behavior and thinking. In addition, you may feel inspired, think of yourself as an artistic person and write a poem. Again we have psychological processes, leading to an actual event. In fact, we do most of the things in life because of the psychological effects that we think that we'll acquire. For example we strive for achievement to experience comfort and happiness- we're striving not so much for the actual achievement, but for the emotions that we hope will accompany it. What we perceive in the world is a manifestation of psychological processes and it’s not vice versa. What “IS:, is a product of our consciousness (or societal unconsciousness). The deliberate display of consciousness and the inner work have the power to change the “inner” and the “outer” world. If you don’t like your world…call your counselor and start changing it...now. Today I invite you to speak, because there is someone who’s willing to listen. Give your hand, because there is someone to hold it. Ask your questions, because there’s someone to answer them. And most of all…don’t postpone your life for tomorrow, because your life is now. Start living without fear today, because you won’t be alone.

To be continued…
